The long rumored rumor that Jaden Smith would be the new Karate Kid in the remake of the hit movie was finally confirmed by Variety. Will Smith will be producing his son in the movie, that will begin filming next year in Bejing and other cities. The more I read the article the more sad I got that they are destroying another franchise. Positive note Jaden takes Martial Arts classes.

Will Smith donated money to the Church of Scientology’s LEAP program in 2006.

Then came lots of talk: Will and Jada hanging out with Tom Cruise, super Scientologist, didn’t help. The Smith kids were also getting home-schooled, which put them in line with Cruise, John Travolta and others.

This year, news broke that Will had funded a school in suburban Los Angeles that used one of Scientology’s study programs. It seemed like Will and Jada were making a statement. But they didn’t actually make a statement.

Monday night, Fox News ran into Mr. and Mrs. Smith at the premiere of “Lakeview Terrace,” which Will has produced with partner James Lassiter. Jada was there, too. And here’s the thing about Will and Jada: they are immensely likable. They are incredibly gracious. Even when Will’s overzealous security guard, the size of the Cleopatra column, attempted to block and neutralize me, Smith intervened quickly.

Fox News heard he’d given a press conference to the group called Anonymous, which protests Scientology.

“Not exactly a press conference, but I did talk to them,” he said. Mind you, Will had just gone to the buffet and was carrying a plate of food. This was up at the swanky new Empire Hotel rooftop following the premiere of “Lakeview,” which stars Samuel L. Jackson and Kerry Washington.

So, what’s the story? Is Will a Scientologist? “I am not,” he said. The school is using one of Scientology’s teaching tools, but Will said, “You can take different parts of things you like and put them all together.”

This is similar to what he told the Anonymous people (who remain, I presume, unknown). In their recent press release, the group said, “We appreciate Will’s interest in our efforts and his openness in speaking with us directly. It shows his concern both as a parent and educator.

“Anonymous is hopeful that NVLA will take the great strides necessary to correct for the deficiencies in Scientology’s Study Tech, or abandon them altogether. We will be keeping an eye on the situation to make sure that NVLA lives up to the goals Will Smith has for it, which include keeping the Church of Scientology out of the classrooms.”

More importantly: Jada wore a short-waisted vintage dress, with the bust covered in a silver mylar sort of thing. It was very cool. She told me she was thrilled “The Women” had made $10 million in its first weekend, since it only cost $16 million. “We’re in the clear whatever happens now,” she said.

Dang, I wonder if these two have been watching Swingtown for ideas. And if their BFFs Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have offered to swing with them.

I don’t think the headline is anything earth shattering. I think the entire world is scared of Jada Pinkett Smith. Will Smith is probably just more scared because he actually has to sleep next to her. In an interview this weekend, Will said that the reason his marriage has lasted so long and is so strong is because divorce is not an option. In the interview he makes it seem like this was a mutual decision and is some type of marriage breakthrough. What it boils down to though is not advice from Dr. Phil, but a good ass kicking every night from Jada. Do you honestly believe that Will would survive a day if he told Jada he wanted a divorce. Please. You thought Javier Bardem was psycho in No Country For Old Men. Hell, who do you think he modeled the character after?Javier would give up if he had Jada after him. That didn’t take long. Yesterday I told you about the story that was published making out Will Smith to be a daring hero who rescues dogs and provides wisdom to growing boys. Well today, he has taken the wisdom thing just a bit further. According to the National Enquirer, Will Smith is funding a new school in Calabasas. As in where Nick and Jessica used to call home.The school is called New Village Academy.  Nothing wrong with that. Lots of celebrities want to leave their marks on the world, and a school is a good place. Well, when you click on the website, click on the curriculum tab and start looking at the language they use. I’m going to whisper now. Scientology. Shhhh. Here’s an excerpt I found which describes what happens when kids don’t do well.

This is a process they call Quals.

Our Qualifications teacher works in unison with the teachers to help them so that all children are learning, progressing toward their goals, and happy in school.Upon completion of a subject chapter such as in math, the teacher sends the student to “Qual”, where he/she is given an test in various forms. If the student scores anything less than 100%, the Qualifications teacher will sit down with the student and go over the part of the exam that was not fully understood and make sure the student understands all of the words and concepts in the chapter. The teacher will also make sure the student did not skip any concepts which would inhibit learning. This is done to help students so that they gain 100% certainty.If a student is having difficulty in class in a particular subject, the teacher may send the child to Qual for assistance in finding out why the student is not progressing. Qual staff will intensively work with the student to determine what is going on and work with them one-on-one until they have grasped the subject matter and are ready to move on.

If the headline said that Will Smith had saved the lives of people in a car accident, I wouldn’t have been surprised. As it is though, since Will is probably new to the whole Scientology thing and if he has joined the church is presumably at a lower level than Tom, you kind of have to start out smaller. In Will’s case there was no car accident or pulling people from a burning vehicle before it exploded.Nope, Will instead gets the whole saving the life of a dog thing. According to reports, Will Smith was out jogging when he heard three young boys screaming for help. Unbuttoning his shirt and furling his cape, Will searched for the boys until he found them. What he found was a cocker spaniel trapped in the weeds after jumping into a canal to chase a stick one of the boys had thrown. The actor using all of his super powers waded into the canal and pulled the dog free.

After the boys stopped crying and thanking Will, he had this lesson to offer. “Next time you play fetch, play it on the grass.”
