The Oscar winning actress Charlize Theron was overseas promoting “The Burning Plain”.

The Burning Plain scheduled to hit theaters in the States in September 2009, the drama also stars Kim Basinger and Diego J. Torres, among others.

Wearing a baggy blue playsuit, cap and flip flops combination, her casual look was a million miles away from her glamorous red carpet image.

Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron has seen The Hills and she doesn’t understand why it’s so popular.

“I realized that this f—ing show is huge,” Theron told MTV News Monday while promoting Battle in Seattle. “Now I’m going to ask you a question: Why?

“Why is it so big?” she asked. “It’s about nothing! This is a free country. Freedom of speech! You can tell me right now to my face that Reindeer Games was a piece of sh–. That’s totally fine.

“But The Hills is about nothing,” she continued. “I think the girls are beautiful and when they cry their mascara runs and that’s real, but I don’t get it! [Pause.] I am a nana. I’ll just take it. I am a nana. Maybe I need to watch the shows some more.”

Theron, 33, said she watched a couple of episodes in different languages because she was on a world tour.

In March, Theron was bewildered when asked by MTV about The Hills.

“I do not know what The Hills are,” she responded at the time. “Oh, now you’re going to make me look like the old fart. God, you’re a mother—-er! Unbelievable! You’re supposed to make me look like the cool movie star! Come on! Get with it! What is The Hills?”

Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend have been happily together for years, but the actress, 33, admits before she found Stuart, 35, weren’t always easy.

She tells August’s UK Elle, “He got through to me on a level that no one else did. Stuart made me softer. He was one of the few guys who wasn’t afraid o me. What he saw was not toughness but vulnerability.”

As for the reason she and her partner of seven years have yet to tie the knot, she says, “I want to know that I wake up every morning with him because I want to, not because a piece of paper says so.”

Theron appreciated Smith’s decision to not look down her, but wished that Smith would’ve suggested that another Hancock co-star use the same gentlemanly approach with her. Theron said, “I wish would’ve had a heart to heart with Jason Bateman beforehand. I was about to charge the guy admission. Then again, he was on Arrested Development, so I guess he gets a pass.”
