For all of those High School Musical fans who wanted some equal time after being forced to see Vanessa Hudgens naked, they will have to keep waiting. Despite all the rumors and reports, Zac Efron told the French website TeeMix that he won’t be doing the Broadway play Equus because he doesn’t have the balls. Actually his term was that he wasn’t ballsy enough.I don’t know if that is because he is afraid to show off what he has or just that he doesn’t want to get naked every night in front of a live audience with cell phone cameras. Even if I had a great body, I think there is something truly terrifying about the prospect of getting up in front of 1,000 people a night and basically being there naked for 30 minutes. It is quite something else to do it on a film and be done with it and not have to do it every night.

So, I don’t have any problems with Zac chickening out. I know the folks at Disney must be breathing a sigh of relief that their feel good franchise kid doesn’t want to be strutting his stuff on stage for awhile.

“But I don’t know if I would do something edgy for the sake of doing something edgy, I think as I mature, so will my roles. I think it will come with time. I’m not going to do anything drastic.”

What that means of course is that when the whole High School Musical - The College Years gets done with and he has no career, then and only then will he be willing to strip for money and for the shock value. So, all of you 15 year old kids will just have to make do with a naked Harry Potter for now.

It’s party time for Zac Efron!

The star of High School Musical 3: Senior Year celebrated his 21st birthday Saturday with an intimate two-hour dinner party at L.A.’s Pace restaurant with a group of friends and family that included his parents and brother, girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens, HSM3 costars Monique Coleman and Ashley Tisdale, her boyfriend Jared Murillo and pals Michelle Trachtenberg, Amanda Bynes, Brittany Snow and singing sisters Aly and AJ Michalka.

Efron kept it causal in a T-shirt and jacket while Hudgens, 19, who “helped plan the party,” a source says, donned a colorful mini-dress. Guests arrived with wrapped gifts, including bottles of liquor for the actor, who can now legally drink alcohol.

Efron and Hudgens left the rustic Italian eatery hand-in-hand just before midnight and disappeared into a waiting car. But the celebration continued at a nearby hotel, where the birthday boy hosted an afterparty with some of his dinner guests.

At the HSM3 premiere in L.A., Efron’s friends and costars were mum on the night’s festivities. But Efron pal Bubba Lewis told PEOPLE, “We’ll probably go out, eat some food, laugh, have a good time.”

Costar KayCee Stroh echoed Efron’s desire for a low-key celebration. “We’re definitely going to party it up,” she said. “But he’s that guy that would rather sit down with friends and have a good discussion than deal with the craziness.”

And what to get the guy who has everything? “I’m going to get him tinted windows,” says Stroh. “That’s what I gave Miley Cyrus for her birthday and he’s getting them too.”

I try and avoid talking about Zac Efron if at all possible. That being said, his latest dilemma brings up an interesting point. Zac, I guess has not ruled out HSM4 which shows you that his career is not going as great as he would have liked.

As a condition to doing HSM4 he wants $10M. That is one hell of a lot of money for a television film. If Disney coughs up the dough to pay him, is it really worth it?

I think Zac Efron became famous because of the concept of HSM, not because he is any great shakes as an actor. I think that he might be able to get $10M for HSM4, but that if you put him in any other film, he probably would be lucky to get $1M which is what Paris Hilton got for Pledge This.

The other question is whether HSM is like a Law And Order type situation where it doesn’t matter who the hell you stick in there, the formula is going to work and thus you can find a new bunch of people and pay them $50,000 each and have them do it for the next few years. By the time they reach their third installment, Zac and Vanessa and Ashley will have moved on to rehab heaven or a career as a columnist with The Advocate, and so would probably be willing to return as teachers or janitors or wherever Disney can find a slot for them.

I have to give Mandy Moore some credit here. She had just got off a flight from Los Angeles to Sydney and she stopped and took photographs with each and every person who came up to her, so I can forgive her if she didn’t smile brightly for each person.

Wow. I love the book, but I’m thinking that perhaps the two years of celibacy Kathleen Turner was not really as much of a one way decision as we were all led to believe.
