Anne Hathaway could be drawn deeper into the fraud scandal of her ex-boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri, now that FBI agents have seized the actress’ private journals, sources tells us.
The agents confiscated the intimate diaries of the “Devil Wears Prada” star during another raid on Follieri’s $37,500-a-month Trump Tower pad, according to the sources. Seeking to bolster their case against the dashing Italian, who has been charged with 11 counts of fraud and money laundering, agents are also said to have seized photos of Follieri with Bill and Hillary Clinton, Pope John Paul II, and John and Cindy McCain. Also confiscated were documents, watches, a Tiffany clock, an antique Bible and personal photos of Follieri and Hathaway.
Hathaway, who has been charged with no crime, has cut off all contact with the 30-year-old Follieri, say sources. While Follieri recently had associates return to Hathaway a $250,000 abstract painting that had hung in his pad, “she’s changed her numbers so he can’t reach her,” says a friend. “Raffaello has been trying to call her all the time.”
Hathaway’s rep did not immediately respond to a request for a comment.
The disconnect notice is bound to darken the 7½-by-8-foot Metropolitan Correctional Center cell where Follieri has been held since his June 24 arrest, which stemmed from his bid to sell Catholic Church properties.
“Raffaello is doing very badly,” says a friend of Follieri, who was hospitalized for an anxiety attack the day he was locked up. “He says people are abusing him. He’s a broken man.”
According to friends, he still wonders whether Hathaway, 25, helped put him behind bars. “He was in Europe, working on a deal,” says a source. “He didn’t have to come back to New York. He knew he was being investigated. But she kept calling him, saying they needed to resolve their future. A few days after his return, he was arrested.”
Last week, prosecutors said Follieri was considering a plea deal. “It’s very fishy,” says one source. “He hasn’t even been indicted yet, and already they’re talking a plea? But he may have no money and the feds may have him so scared that he thinks this is his best shot.”
Follieri is also said to feel abandoned by his longtime adviser, lawyer Marty Edelman. According to a source, Edelman has refused to confer with Follieri’s current attorney, Flora Edwards, telling her he may be a witness should the case go to trial.
A lawyer for Edelman declined to comment.
Edwards says Follieri “is holding up reasonably well” in “a difficult and hostile environment.” She won’t say whether he’s mulling a plea, however, adding that “I have no information that Mary Edelman is a witness and he has not refused to speak with me.”

Get Smart star Anne Hathaway implemented a Garanimals style system to help with her co-star Steve Carell’s hand placement during a photo call in Rome. Hathaway had noticed at prior press conferences and premieres that Carell seemed unsure as to where he should put his hands, so Hathaway purchased this dress to help him out. Carell appreciated what he called the “hand squares on the dress” and thanked Hathaway for being so conscientious.

Anne Hathaway’s family tried to warn her about her ex-boyfriend, alleged con man Raffaello Follieri.
Before Follieri’s arrest on fraud charges last week, Hathaway’s father, Gerard, a lawyer, encouraged her to move out of the couple’s Olympic Tower apartment, sources tell us.
“Her father’s not stupid,†says the source. “He and Anne’s mother always had their suspicions about Raffaelo.â€
Anne was reluctant to believe the worst. Still, she may have gotten wind that the hammer was about to drop on the Italian charmer, who prosecutors allege concocted his ties to the Vatican.
“She left the country right before the feds arrested him. But she may have had some regrets about helping them,†another knowledgeable source tells us. “The night before his arrest, she had a tearful phone conversation with him.â€
Hathaway’s spokesman Stephen Huvane declined to comment.
Follieri may have been a victim of his own attempts to look flush, according to sources. U.S. District Court Judge Henry B. Pittman set bail at $21 million, based on documents indicating that he had $16 million in a bank account in Monaco.
But two sources say people in law enforcement now question whether he had anything like that amount.
“He doesn’t have s- in that account,†said one insider. “Some people believe he drafted that document and hoped to have it validated by a bank officer in Monaco.â€
Follieri’s lawyer, Flora Edwards, did not return a call by deadline.
Meanwhile, we hear that Follieri also clashed recently with his former lawyer, Joe Tacopina, who represented him when billionaire Ron Burkle sued him. Tacopina is heading a group of Americans trying to buy the Italian soccer team AS Roma. One source says Follieri wanted in on the deal, but Tacopina refused.
According to another source, “Raffaello claims he was instrumental in getting the deal going but Tacopina pushed him out. But Tacopina says he still owes him for his legal work.â€

Donald Trump didn’t actually come out and use the word whore. What he did say about Anne Hathaway though to ABC News is that she is an evil person who was only with Raffaello Follieri for his money and that as soon as it was gone she was gone also.”After (his legal troubles) she was gone …and fast! Sadly, that seems to be the way life works.”
“She hasn’t remained very loyal to him, has she? So when he had plenty of money, she liked him, but then after that, not as good, right?”
So, if someone is with someone just for the money, whore might be too strong of a word. Perhaps we could just call them Denise or Kim or Donald’s ex-wives.
Anyway, this guy has been allegedly ripping off everyone in sight for years and years and Anne does not appear to be a stupid woman, so I’m wondering if she didn’t care as long as she got to live the life. It was only when she realized the FBI was coming at any day that she bailed. I still don’t think they are done. If the loser could actually get out of jail I think she would be with him in an instant.
Maybe she is just with him because he lets her be with women or something. I do think that Donald’s words are perhaps a little too harsh. She has stayed with him through several arrests and lawsuits and claims of fraud and all the other things he has been getting into. If I were a cynical guy I might wonder what exactly she knows about everything that has been going on. I also wonder if the little creep married her. You might be wondering that as well.

Close Friends of Hollywood star Anne Hathaway’s ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri are reportedly accusing the talented actress of turning him into the authorities over his allegedly fraudulent business dealings. The actress is said to have broken up with the Italian businessman earlier this month, shortly before he was arrested on suspicion of fraud. According to the New York Daily News, Follieri, who has been charged with a dozen counts of federal wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering, is believed to have been outed to the Federal Bureau of Investigation by his former flame. A source tells the newspaper, “It makes sense. She’s referred to as his former girlfriend in the indictment even though her spokesman never confirmed they broke up. I think that in return for her cooperation, the feds held off on arresting Follieri until she was out of the country.” A spokesperson for Hathaway has declined to comment on Follieri’s legal troubles. The 29-year-old remains behind bars until he can post $21 million bail. A status hearing for Follieri has been set for next month.

HOW EXACTLY did the feds “Get Smart†about Anne Hathaway’s breakup with her troubled boyfriend?
A pal of jailed wheeler-dealer Raffaello Follieri suspects the starlet spoke with the FBI shortly before they arrested her ex for an alleged $6 million con job.
“It makes sense,†the friend said. “She’s referred to as his former girlfriend in the indictment even though her spokesman never confirmed they broke up.â€
Hathaway, who is not identified by name in the criminal complaint, split with Follieri shortly before his arrest last week. He is charged with posing as an agent of the Vatican to fleece investors out of millions.
“I think that in return for her cooperation, the feds held off on arresting Follieri until she was out of the country,†the friend said.
Hathaway’s camp has declined to comment on Follieri’s legal troubles. The Italian businessman faces up to 20 years in federal prison if he’s convicted of wire-fraud and money-laundering charges.
The 29-year-old businessman is accused of living the high life after he allegedly duped investors into pouring millions of dollars into a phony real-estate scheme.
Follieri, a fixture at Hathaway’s side for years, remains locked up on $21 million bail.

ANNE Hathaway got smart in time to dump her boyfriend, Rafaello Follieri, before he was arrested this week for fraud - but now the star should step up and take care of the former couple’s 2-year-old chocolate labrador, Esmeralda.
“Could Anne Hathaway please come get her dog?†asked a friend of Follieri.
The pooch is being cared for by Follieri’s mother, Anna, who’s here from Italy for cancer treatment and living in his $40,000-a-month Trump Tower penthouse.
While Follieri is in jail and unable to make bail, “he can’t afford a dog walker, and his mom has cancer,†said our source. “I feel bad for the dog. She’s a beautiful, sweet dog who probably greeted the FBI agents with her tail wagging.â€
Trump Tower is a new address for Follieri. On March 5, after Page Six had run some stories about the high-living Italian, we were invited to lunch with him and Hathaway - and Esmeralda. They were then living in a duplex at Olympic Tower.
The apartment, owned by a South African couple, was sparsely furnished. Follieri told us his Sicilian chef had emigrated to New York to cook in a new restaurant, but the eatery wasn’t yet ready to open.
A butler served delicious salad, pasta and fish, plus dessert, as Hathaway graciously talked about her career and her preference to move downtown together. Follieri smiled and mostly kept his mouth shut. Now he’s downtown - but alone and in the clink.
Meanwhile, in this Sunday’s Page Six Magazine, Joshua David Stein, who has been researching Follieri for weeks, reports that Vincent Ponte, described as a “real estate developer,†is listed as a vice president of the Follieri Group.
“Vincent had another job too: Along with his father, Angelo, he owned V. Ponte & Sons, one of the largest waste management firms in New York,†Stein reports.

Anne Hathaway declares her love for recently ditched boyfriend Raffaello Follieri in the last interview she gave before splitting with him.
The star ended her four-year romance with the Italian earlier this month after months of controversy surrounding Follieri’s business dealings.
Follieri is currently facing a $21 million bail bill to keep him out of jail as he awaits trial on wire fraud and money laundering charges.
But just weeks ago, Hathaway was cooing about the 29-year-old Italian and sharing their plans to buy a new home together in New York.
She told InStyle, “I enjoy living with him so much, but we’re in his apartment — and we’ve decided that it’s time to find where our home is going to be.”
When grilled on the possibility of a wedding, she replied, “We’re quite happy. I’m not sweating out a proposal.”

The issue features the “Get Smart†hottie on the cover and has her gushing about Raffaello Follieri - her ex-boyfriend who was busted for wire fraud and money laundering yesterday - and how they’re house-hunting. “I enjoy living with him so much, but we’re in his apartment - and we’ve decided that it’s time to find where our home is going to be,†she said. “If we get a house as opposed to an apartment, the first two floors will be a bit more traditional for him to be able to receive people, and the top two floors will be whatever I want.†She adds that there’s no pressure about marriage because, “we’re quite happy . . . I’m [not] sweating out a proposal.†The couple split last week. Friends tell Page Six, “She’s heartbroken. She was really in love with him.â€

Jared “The Subway Guy” Fogle corned Steve Carell at the Get Smart premiere about getting a date with the newly single Anne Hathaway. Fogle wasn’t actually on the guest list, but his heart told him to bum rush the Westwood premiere. Fogle said, “How often is a girl like Anne Hathaway single? Not very often. So, I had to jet down here and put my heart and soul out on the line.” Fogle added that he felt an instant connection with Hathaway while watching the 2004 film Ella Enchanted. Fogle said, “There was just something about her in that film. I just knew that I was going to spend the rest of my life with her.” Much to his dismay, Fogle was unable to get any face time with Hathaway by night’s end. Developing…

I don’t know what in the hell she sees in him, but the rumors about Anne Hathaway breaking up with her boyfriend are not true. Let me make this clear. He would break up with her, but she would never leave him. I think people ask her and plead with her everyday to break up with the douchebag, but when she tries to leave, he just sucks her back in. She gave up a long time ago trying to leave.
Plus, I think he is really cool with her side activities if you know what I mean and she is okay with his. I will say that I’m not sure of the exact hold he has over her. I don’t know if it is a bad boy thing or if there is something more sinister or if he owes her a bunch of money and so she is staying until she has a chance of getting paid.
Just know this. That despite what you may read or even hear from PR people in the next few days, Anne is totally into this guy and isn’t leaving. Wish she was, but she isn’t.

The Devil Wears Prada actress Anne Hathaway put on a brave face at her latest film premiere last night after breaking up with long-term boyfriend Raffaello Follieri, the Mail Online can reveal.
The 25-year-old movie star ended her four year relationship with Italian-American businessman, 29, over the weekend.
The Brokeback Mountain star’s decision follows over a year of scandal linked to Follieri.
Last week, it was reported his charity Follieri Foundation, which funded vaccination programmes in developing countries, was being investigated by the New York State Attorney General’s Office.
An insider tells the Mail Online that Hathaway made the painful decision to end their relationship because of the effects his controversial business dealings could have on her career.
Hathaway served as a director on the charity’s board until some time last year, with her rep saying: ‘Since she is no longer associated with the foundation, why would you expect her to be familiar with all of this,’ when asked about the investigation.
A source said: ‘It’s heartbreaking for her to dump him, and she’s devastated that it’s come to this, but she really didn’t have a choice. His scandals were hurting her reputation.’
Despite their split, it remains to be seen if the separation is permanent.

The couple were reported to have split briefly this year after Follieri was sued by a former business associate for bouncing a $215,000 cheque.
Criminal charges against Follieri were dropped after he turned himself into police and settled the outstanding bill.
Follieri often visited Hathaway on the Boston set of her upcoming movie Bride Wars, but they were regularly spotted arguing by crew members.
A friend said: ‘They fought so much while Anne was making the movie, she genuinely started to wonder if the relationship was worth all the pain.’
Hathaway also heard rumours from her friends in New York that the businessman had been flirting with other women while she was away filming.
The friend added: ‘Raffaello would only ever visit her on sets for short periods of time.
‘He was very caught up in his social life and making connections in New York, and stories would get back to Anne about his late nights and carousing, usually with models in the immediate vicinity.’
During the making of Get Smart last summer, Hathaway formed a friendship with co-star Steve Carell, who lent her a supportive ear during her problems with Follieri.
Hathaway’s split from Follieri may mean she finally moves to Hollywood, after years of insisting she would remain on the east coast to stay close to her beau.
A pal said: ‘She seemed to really be enjoying her freedom, and making new friends in L.A., especially Steve.
‘Anne really wants to find a guy like Steve, and if he weren’t married, I have no doubt she would date him in a second.
‘She’s such a fan of his work she couldn’t help but quote episodes of ‘The Office’ to him when they first met. She thinks he’s amazing.
‘Even though she loves being near her family, a move to Los Angeles could mean better roles, more money, and a better pool of potential boyfriends.’

Hollywood star Anne Hathaway received a horrible injury while filming her new movie Get Smart. She ended up cutting her shins to the bone. The actress was performing a stunt on the spy-themed action film, when she hit her legs on a metal bar, and the wounds were so deep her shin bones were exposed. But Hathaway refused to let the injury slow her down and insisted on finishing the scene, but she was overruled by movie bosses who forced her to cut filming short and seek medical attention right away. She says, “We were doing a scene where I had to kick a Russian spy in the chest. And as I lifted my knees up to my chest to kick, I hit a bar that shouldn’t have been there.”My shin split open and I had to have 15 stitches, I tried not to wimp out but I could see my shinbones. So I turned to the director and said, ‘If I could have Extra Strength Tylenol (pain killer), I could probably do the shot.’ “And the script supervisor, my dresser and my make-up artist all said to me, ‘You get a plastic surgeon to sew up your legs. And you finish work right now.’ I was trying to continue but in that one I was overruled.”

The state is investigating the charitable foundation of Anne Hathaway’s boyfriend, a spokesman for the attorney general said Monday.
Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri, 29, who dates the “Devil Wears Prada†star, heads the Follieri Foundation, a charity whose work includes vaccinating children in Third World countries.
New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is heading the probe, Cuomo spokesman Matt Glazer said. He said he could not comment further on the ongoing investigation.
The Foundation has not filed IRS tax disclosure forms required from charities, according to a review of records by the Associated Press.
The New York Post, which first reported the investigation, said Hathaway was previously on the foundation’s board of directors, but it was unclear when or for how long.
“There is an investigation going on that does not involve Anne,†said Stephen Huvane, Hathaway’s publicist, in an e-mail. “She is no longer a board member of the Follieri Foundation. Other than that we will not be commenting.â€
The number for a Follieri at his Manhattan apartment was disconnected.
