Bedridden Hollywood actor Dennis Hopper said on Monday he was seeking a divorce from his fifth wife while fighting what one of his children called “a hell of a battle” against prostate cancer.

The unusual filing was made last Thursday. Hopper, 73, and Victoria Duffy have a 6-year-old daughter, Galen. Hopper has three other children from previous marriages.

In a statement, Hopper was quoted as saying: “I wish Victoria the best, but only want to spend these difficult days surrounded by my children and close friends.”

Hopper, perhaps best known for directing and starring in the 1969 cult classic “Easy Rider,” was diagnosed with cancer last September. A family friend said he has recently embarked on a new course of chemotherapy.

His eldest daughter, Marin, said in a statement to Reuters: “Dennis is brave, and he is fighting a hell of a battle.”

In a wildly varied career spanning more than 50 years, Hopper appeared alongside his mentor, James Dean, in “Rebel Without a Cause” and “Giant,” and played maniacs in such films as “Apocalypse Now,” “Blue Velvet” and “Speed.”

He received two Oscar nominations, for writing “Easy Rider” (with co-star Peter Fonda and Terry Southern), and for a rare heartwarming turn as an alcoholic high-school basketball coach in the 1986 drama “Hoosiers.”

His domestic life has never been dull. One of his marriages included an eight-day union with Michelle Phillips of the Mamas and Papas in 1970. Phillips later told Vanity Fair that she was subjected to “excruciating” treatment. Hopper also broke the nose of his first wife, Brooke Hayward, after a drug binge.

It’s good to see that even celebrities aren’t immune from the tenacity of a jobsworth parking attendant.

And it was quite ingenious of Katy Perry to use the situation as an opportunity to show off her expensive new piece of bling.

The pop star found herself slapped with a fine after illegally parking her shiny black Audi on the street as she and fiance Russell Brand stopped for coffee in Los Angeles yesterday.

And as she whipped off the parking ticket from under her windscreen wiper, she couldn’t resist flashing her Cartier engagement ring for all the world to see.

The morning after their night out at a charity gala at the Beverly Hills Hilton on Saturday, Katy, 25, and Russell, 34, went for a caffeine fix at the Intelligentsia Cafe in the trendy Silver Lake district of the city yesterday.

And despite being one of the most talked-about couples at the moment, the pair didn’t abuse their celebrity status and queued for a table just like everyone else.

After staying for coffee, they bought some pastries to take away and went for a stroll around the neighbourhood, before returning to Katy’s car and the ominuous ticket.

But it will probably take more than a parking fine to dampen this the good mood of this couple, who have had loved-up smiles on their faces since they announced their engagement just after the New Year.

Katy showed off her betrothed to the Hollywood jet-set on Saturday night at the The Art of Elysium’s 3rd Annual Black Tie Charity Gala ‘Heaven’ where, at one stage, she sat on his lap for the cameras.

And it was revealed today that love was brewing in the air between them when they first met in 2008 on the set of his latest film Get Him To The Greek.

The movie, which is due for release this June, is the sequel to Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and sees Russell reprise his role as British rock star Aldous Snow.

Katy filmed a cameo scene as herself for the film in which she had to kiss Russell – who tricked her into thinking the cameras were rolling.

In September 2008, a year before they started dating, Russell interviewed Katy on his former Talksport show, which he presented with former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher.

And he admitted to her that when they filmed their kissing scene, he told her a hidden camera crew were filming it when they weren’t.

But Katy, who was still dating Gym Class Heroes frontman Travis McCoy at the time, confessed in a later interview that kissing her future fiance left her feeling very happy.

She said: ‘My scene called for me to make out with him. And on the way down the stairs after the scene, I was hopping like a bunny. I hop like a bunny when I’m happy – I get a bit childlike.’

Amy Winehouse admits it went beyond seasonal spirit.

The soul diva pleaded guilty Wednesday to assaulting a theater manager who asked her to leave a family Christmas show starring Mickey Rooney because she had too much to drink.

The singer, whose scrapes with the law often overshadow her music, was given a fine and a warning to stay out of trouble by a judge who praised her for trying to clean up her act.

District Judge Peter Crabtree ordered Winehouse to pay her victim 185 pounds ($300) in costs and compensation, and handed down a conditional discharge, meaning the singer will avoid further punishment as long as she does not commit any more offenses for two years.

“(That) may be harder than a fine, because you have now got to stay on the straight and narrow for the next two years,” the judge said.

“If you commit another offense you’ll be hit hard and you’ll be hit twice,” he said.

A scrum of photographers met media-magnet Winehouse as she arrived at Milton Keynes Magistrates Court, 50 miles north of London, dressed in a white shirt and dark skirt with her beehive hair piled high.

The 26-year-old singer admitted charges of disorder and common assault during a Dec. 19 performance of the pantomime “Cinderella,” in which 89-year-old Rooney played the heroine’s father, Baron Hardup. The petite singer had earlier admitted drinking five vodka and cola drinks before the show.

Audiences at British pantomimes — a popular form of seasonal variety show incorporating fairy-tale plots, slapstick humor, cross-dressing and music — are traditionally rambunctious and are encouraged to shout at the stage and join in with the songs. But prosecutors said Winehouse’s behavior went beyond the usual audience participation.

Prosecution lawyer Julian Vickery said Winehouse had been “raising her voice in the spirit of the pantomime” during the show at Milton Keynes Theater. She “accepted in interview that some members of the audience may have found her disorderly,” and one had asked her to be quiet, he said.

The attorney said Winehouse was moved to a private box for the second half of the show, but later left the auditorium to go to the toilet and, passing the bar, asked manager Richard Pound for a double vodka and Coke. Vickery said Winehouse felt “hurt, embarrassed and patronized” when Pound suggested she have a glass of water instead and then asked her to leave because she had had too much to drink.

He said Winehouse “with no premeditation, grabbed his hair and pulled.” She also was overheard muttering obscenities.

The judge said it was “obvious that alcohol played its part” in the incident. He said a medical report showed the singer had since tried to curb her drinking.

“You clearly have taken effort from this report to address your alcohol problems and any other problems you may have, so you get credit for that,” the judge said.

Defense lawyer Paul Morris said Winehouse had made “huge changes” to her lifestyle.

Winehouse had been charged under her married name, Amy Civil, after reporting to a police station Dec. 23.

The singer shot to stardom with the Grammy-winning album “Back to Black” in 2006, but her music has been overshadowed by drug use, legal run-ins and a tempestuous marriage that ended in divorce last year.

Since her divorce from Blake Fielder-Civil in July, Winehouse has kept a lower profile, spending several months in St. Lucia and then moving from London’s nightlife hub of Camden to the quiet suburb of Barnet.

She recently has been back in the recording studio, raising fan hopes of a follow-up to “Back to Black.”

Last July she was acquitted of assaulting a fan who asked to take her picture after a charity ball. The judge said he could not be sure the blow had been deliberate.

After Wednesday’s hearing, local police superintendent Simon Eatwell warned that celebrity disorder would not be allowed in Milton Keynes, a busy “new town” of 200,000 people, largely developed since the 1960s.

“Milton Keynes has a very safe nighttime economy,” he said. “We will not tolerate incidents of public disorder and will always deal with them robustly.”

The official cause of death is still pending, but Brittany Murphy’s mother believes her daughter died from a heart murmur, according to Radaronline.com.

“The congenital condition was diagnosed when Brittany was a teenager and she always had the best medical care for it,” Sharon Murphy said.

The 32-year-old actress, known for her big eyes and wide grin and from such movies as “Clueless” and “Girl, Interrupted,” collapsed and died on Dec. 20 in Hollywood.

In a 911 call, Murphy’s mother told the dispatcher that her “daughter’s passed out” and went on to say that Brittany had been vomiting and was feeling dizzy.

Rumors have swirled that drugs, alcohol or mental illness may have contributed to the young star’s death, but her mother refutes those reports.

The actress’ husband, Simon Monjack, told People magazine about his wife’s sick heart.

“We had it checked out every which way you could imagine.”
