Christina Applegate, our October cover star, opens up about her battle with breast cancer and how she rebounded from her health crisis a stronger, happier person and driven to make a difference.

Christina is also the ambassador for Lee National Denim Day – on October 2nd Lee in collaboration with Christina’s foundation, Right Action for Women, invites companies to participate in Denim Day where their employees wear their jeans to work in exchange for a $5 contribution.

A sense of humor can be the best remedy:

“I laughed more in the hospital than I ever have in my life, making fun of all the weird things that were happening to me. My friends would walk in with this sad look, and I would throw something at them and say, ‘Come on! This isn’t the end of the world!’”

On meeting other cancer survivors:

“There’s a real kinship when we meet. We hold each other tight because we know where the other has been: to hell and back.”

On joining other breast cancer survivors at a “Stand Up to Cancer” benefit:

“Backstage, Jennifer Aniston said something like, ‘I don’t like having to see my three girlfriends up there, but I am so proud of you.’ That was nice.”

On her new breasts (after a reconstructive surgery following a double mastectomy):

“It’s really hard because they just aren’t the same—and I had really good ones. If you have boobs you don’t like, you can go and choose the size you want, and then get a brand-new present. But it’s different [when it’s not your choice]. But I hold on to the fact that I don’t have to wear a bra, which is great!”

Overeating during her recent trip to Italy :

“If I see another Caprese salad, I’m going to lose it! We kind of went balls out.”

Her boyfriend, Martyn Lenoble, was her rock through her battle with cancer:

“I don’t think I would have been able to get through any of it without him”

On recent engagement rumors:

“Can a girl please wear a ring on her left hand and not have it be all, ‘Is she engaged?’”

She focuses on today:

“I’ve never been one to pull the covers over my head. I have to push through things.”

Her newly adopted set of life rules:

“If you get too caught up in the outer, you forget about the inner.”

Christina’s inspiration to start her foundation, Right Action for Women:

“I became really passionate about people who are at high risk having the same opportunity to get this sort of testing. Some insurance companies consider the tests exploratory, which is just ridiculous. I mean, it saved my life!”

On meeting a woman touched by her cause:

“It was pretty heavy. She was crying and holding me and said, ‘Thank you for saving my life.’ When that happens, you can’t help but think ‘OK I’ve done the right thing.”

In an exclusive chat with Celebuzz on the Emmy Awards red carpet, Kathy Griffin revealed that she’d rather hook up with Robert Pattinson sooner than later, she says, because “he looks like he has about three weeks to live.”

Griffin, a fave fiery-tressed comedienne, assessed the New Moon star’s health. Asked to choose between Pattinson and fellow New Moon hunk Taylor Lautner, she said she’d prefer Rpattz because “he looks like he’s about to die anyway so I’ve got to grab him and f*** him while I can.”

The couple spent last weekend at the Water Club at the Borgata in Atlantic City. Sources say that despite reports of a split, the host of E!’s “Chelsea Lately” and her beau shared a suite and dined at restaurants Fornelletto and Bobby Flay Steak. A spy told us, “They were inseparable and did everything together.” Comcast CEO Ted even went to every one of Chelsea’s three shows at the casino-hotel.

Tamerlane Phillips doesn’t sound proud to be the son of Mamas and Papas founder John Phillips and the brother of Bijou Phillips. Upon learning that his half-sister Mackenzie Phillips will appear this week on Oprah Winfrey’s show to promote “High on Arrival” — her book about her troubled childhood and her drug habit — Tamerlane, 38, said:

“My family is and always will be a decrepit bowl of dog urine compared to Nityananda of Ganeshpuri. That is how great Nityananda is.” The In dian yogi died in 1961. “Wor ship Nityananda, not the Phillips family. Nityananda can protect you,” said Tamerlane.

Avril Lavigne decided she wanted to divorce husband Deryck Whibley after realizing she married too young, according to reports.

The Complicated hitmaker is apparently keen to explore a life without the Sum 41 star.

“She married too young and she finally realized that,” a source told People magazine. “Avril realized she needs her own life and needs to explore things without him.”

The source adds that Avril and Deryck have been having problems for at least six months. The insider also denied reports the marriage collapse is down to Lavigne’s reluctance to have a baby.

“The split is not about Deryck wanting a kid nor is she dating anyone else,” the source said. “There is no romance.”

The couple are no longer living together in their Bel Air home. “Deryck has left the house,” says the source, but “wasn’t kicked out.” Avril said:

“Deryck and I have been together for 6-an-a-half years. We have been friends since I was 17, started dating when I was 19, and married when I was 21,” Avril, 24, wrote on her website Thursday. “I am grateful for our time together, and I am grateful and blessed for our remaining friendship.”

“I admire Deryck and have a great amount of respect for him,” Avril added. “He is the most amazing person I know and I love him with all my heart. Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note.”

Director Guillermo Arriaga said, “We had to shoot the scene at 6 a.m. before any of the photographers were up. It was done in such secrecy that it wasn’t even in the script. Only three people, including myself, knew it was going to happen.”
