Brooke Shields has come to an agreement with the National Enquirer after alleging a reporter and photographer from the tabloid checked her elderly mother, who suffers from dementia, out of a New Jersey nursing home last month.

“Two weeks ago, Brooke Shields was forced to make a public disclosure about her mother, Teri Shields’s health, when we learned that Mrs. Shields had been taken out of a care facility by a reporter and photographer working for the National Enquirer and I was told that the National Enquirer was going to print information about her condition and whereabouts,” Shields’s attorney, Gerald B. Lefcourt told People.com.

“I am very pleased to report that [the] National Enquirer was prevailed upon not to publish a story,” says Lefcourt. “Further, it has or will be apologizing publicly. Finally, it has agreed to make a generous donation to further research on dementia and to encourage others to do so.”

At the time of the incident, the actress was alerted by Old Tappan Police that her 75-year-old mother had been signed out of the facility by two National Enquirer reporters who claimed to have been friends of the elderly Shields.

According to the Enquirer, “Teri has long considered this reporter a friend. At no point did the facility, which had given its permission for the outing, contend that there had been any wrongdoing in a situation where two people who had known each for more than a decade.”

The tabloid says that the reporter, who took Shields to lunch next door to the nursing home, was not on assignment at the time but has often worked for them as a freelancer.

Police officers found Shields unharmed and walked her back to the assisted living center.

“I am glad that Brooke Shields and her family can consider the matter now closed,” Lefcourt said.

Paris Hilton finds a lot of things “hot,” but the idea of once taking part in a lesbian sex show is not one of them.

For the past six years, the heiress has done her best to prove she’s more than a girl who … well, you know what she did on that sex tape that her skeevy ex-boyfriend sold.

But now, having gone on to a half-dozen movie roles, two books, a CD, and fragrance and footwear lines, she’s fending off the claim of a woman who says she and Paris once stripped for high-rollers in Vegas.

“[Hilton] flew down to Vegas,” Mark Ebner reports Elizabeth Jawhary as saying on HollywoodInterrupted.com. “We partied pretty hard.”

According to Jawhary, some Hollywood players would “pay for girl-on-girl action. I’d be there. And they’d pay to watch.”

Jawhary alleges that, on at least one night, Paris joined in. “Paris got naked, and the girls would get naked,” she claims.

She says the guys would pay her $5,000 for a private show, though she never saw Paris accept any money, according to Ebner, author of “Six Degrees of Paris Hilton.”

A rep for Hilton tells us that claims that the heiress was involved in any such adventure are “totally untrue and a complete fabrication.”

Jawhary, now 30 and living a different life in Texas, couldn’t be reached for comment.

Whitney Houston is ready to talk about her seven-year exile from recording — but nobody better bring up drugs!

With her new album due out Sept. 1, Houston’s handlers are getting requests from everybody in the entertainment media for interviews with the reclusive 45-year-old diva.

So who will get the first sit-downs? Apparently, the people who play ball.

“They only want to let her talk to journalists who’ll agree not to ask about her substance abuse,” an insider tells us.

A rep for Houston calls speculation on any PR plans “premature. Nothing has been set.” But we hear the edict goes for the TV morning shows, which are all angling to get her to perform live. “The deal is, if they want her, then Matt Lauer, Diane Sawyer or whoever isn’t supposed to ask her tough questions,” says the source. Good luck with that.

Unlike some starving show-business stars, Mariah Carey (above) celebrates her success with much-deserved meals. “Mariah loves food. Right now she’s making an album and eating everything and anything she wants. She has put on about 15 pounds, but she loves the curves,” said our source. Our tipster adds, “She’ll definitely tone up again when she releases her album, but as of now, she’s stuffing her face.”

Onlookers stopped in front of the Mikimoto jewelry store on Wilshire and Rodeo in Beverly Hills and watched spellbound as Howard, in a charcoal suit, stopped motorists from running over a baby bird. “Six lanes of traffic were stopped,” said our spy. “A baby bird was walking in front of a bus when someone from the store came out and tried to help it.” The actor followed, “holding his hands up and stopping until the bird was out of harm’s way.”

In the wake of Internet reports that Heidi and Spencer Pratt were “tortured” on the set of NBC’s I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, leading to Heidi’s hospitalization Saturday, an on-set source tells Usmagazine.com all allegations are false.

“Any accusations that Spencer and Heidi were harmed are untrue,” the source confirms, adding that while the couple spent approximately 14 hours in the Costa Rican jungle’s “Lost Chamber” awaiting their fate in the series, rations were indeed provided.

As Us exclusively broke the news of Heidi’s emergency hospitalization in Costa Rica, her sister-in-law, Stephanie Pratt, was among the first to condemn NBC for their alleged actions.

“I’m really saddened to hear that nbc felt it was ok to punish speidi so harshly-and torture them as if they were criminals-that Heidi was…rushed to the hospital and has an IV in her arm after being locked in a dark room for 3 days w no food or water. Pls pray she will be ok,” Stephanie wrote late Saturday.

According to the on-set source, the pair quit the series Monday and stayed in hotels for three days until returning to beg their cast mates to allow them back on the show.

As for the conditions inside the “Lost Chamber”?

“There was no danger, no life-threatening situations — in fact, they were actually protected from the elements, unlike the other contestants,” the source adds. “When they came out, they were happy and in good spirits.”

In a statement to Us, ITV Studios, which produces the series, confirms that a medic and doctor have been present at all times during filming. “ITV has been producing this format around the world for many years and the health of the celebrity participants are of the utmost importance,” the statement read.

A source close to the couple relays their relief after being released from the chamber: “Of course they were in good spirits, they were happy to get out of there. There are always life-threatening situations [in the jungle]. There are snakes out there that can kill you! Anyone who has ever seen this show knows that.”

Full details on the pair’s night in the chamber and the fate of their return will be revealed on Monday’s episode of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!

David Carradine’s family members, dissatisfied with Thai investigators and “profoundly disturbed” by the publication of a forensics photo in a Bangkok tabloid, are seeking help from the FBI and an independent pathologist and have threatened legal action against any media outlet that reprints images of the actor in death.

Keith Carradine has filed reports with the FBI that could lead to the agency’s involvement, said Mark Geragos, attorney for the “Kung Fu” actor’s half-brother. The FBI confirmed that Carradine’s family had contacted the agency.

The family will also seek an independent autopsy by famed forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden to determine whether another person could have been involved, Geragos said. Results of an autopsy performed Friday in Bangkok were not expected for at least three weeks.

A chambermaid found Carradine’s body Thursday at Bangkok’s Swissotel Nai Lert Park Hotel. Thai authorities said they have all but ruled out foul play, based on surveillance footage and interviews with hotel staff that indicate no one was in Carradine’s room before he died, said Col. Somprasong Yenthuam, who is heading the investigation.

A grainy photo published on the Saturday cover of the tabloid Thai Rath shows a naked body suspended from a clothes bar in a hotel closet, hands apparently bound together above the head and feet on the floor. The face is blacked out and other areas are obscured.

The paper did not indicate the source of the image, but Thai police said they believed it was a picture of Carradine’s body taken by a forensics team.

Keith Carradine said in a statement that the family was “profoundly disturbed by the release in Thailand of photographs taken at the scene of David Carradine’s death,” and threatened legal action against further distribution.

“The family wants it understood that, per attorney Mark Geragos, any persons, publications or media outlets will be fully prosecuted for invasion of privacy and causing severe emotional distress if the photos are published,” the statement read.

The actor’s family hopes the body will arrive in Los Angeles by Monday, Geragos said, but he did not give specifics.

Geragos said the family decided to intervene because of conflicting information about Carradine’s death and a lack of direct information from Thai authorities.

“All we really know is not much more than what the public knows, and that’s disturbing,” Geragos said.

Agents were checking with the FBI’s legal attache at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok to see if Thai authorities “are requesting or would welcome FBI assistance in this matter.” FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said the agency generally only gets involved in death investigations overseas if a crime is suspected.

Investigators initially said Carradine’s body was found “naked, hanging in a closet,” causing them to suspect he had taken his own life. But his family, friends and representatives have said they doubt the 72-year-old actor would have killed himself.

Police later said the actor may have died from accidental suffocation or heart failure after revealing that he was found with a rope tied around his wrist, neck and genitals - leading to speculation that Carradine may have engaged in a dangerous form of sex play known as auto-erotic asphyxiation.

But Geragos said he expects the examination by the New York-based Baden, a celebrity among forensic pathologists who frequently consults on high-profile cases, will clear up many unanswered questions.

“It’s an amazing thing what a good pathologist can accomplish,” Geragos said.

Carradine flew to Thailand last week and began work on a film titled “Stretch” two days before his death. His friends and associates told CNN’s Larry King he had a happy marriage, recently bought a new car, and had several films lined up after he finished work in Bangkok.

A martial arts practitioner himself, Carradine was best known for the U.S. TV series “Kung Fu,” which aired from 1972-75. He played Kwai Chang Caine, an orphan who was raised by Shaolin monks and fled China for the American West after killing the emperor’s nephew in retaliation for the murder of his kung fu master.

Carradine also appeared in more than 100 feature films with such directors as Martin Scorsese, Ingmar Bergman and Hal Ashby. He returned to the top in recent years as the title character in Quentin Tarantino’s two-part saga “Kill Bill.”

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

Rock singer Bret Michaels had a run-in with some stage scenery at the Tony Awards.

Michaels, star of the reality show “Rock of Love,” took to the stage with his hair-metal band Poison during the telecast’s opening production number, featuring performances from the season’s Broadway musicals.

They performed “Nothin’ But a Good Time” with the cast of “Rock of Ages,” and as Michaels exited the stage, a descending set piece smacked him on the head and knocked him to the ground.

Tonys spokeswoman Christina Stejskal says the rocker “missed his mark.” Though it looked it, he did not break his nose. Stejskal did not immediately know the extent of his injury.

“Rock of Ages” celebrates 1980s hair music and features songs by Journey and other bands. It stars Constantine Maroulis as an aspiring rock star.
