(Queen Latifah, Born Uniqorn designers Tara Jane and Taryn Manning, and Paris Hilton attend an evening of fashion shows by Russell Simmons, Yansi Fugel and Born Uniqorn at Haven.)

Bet you never thought you’d see these two together.

Queen Latifah and Paris Hilton were on hand to support Born Uniquorn designers Tara Jane and actress Taryn Manning at Haven House in L.A. on Friday night. But while the Queen (above, l.-r., with Jane, Manning and Hilton) sat politely through three fashion shows, Hilton prowled the house looking for attention, telling everyone she wasn’t the least bit tired from Fashion Week in New York.

“[Partying] is what I do for a living,” she told us. “I get paid to go to events and parties, and it’s fun.”

The heirhead also claims that she can keep up such late hours because she hardly ever drinks. “I only have Red Bulls when I’m out, so I never wake up with a hangover or anything.”

Hilton also mentioned she’d be having her third B-day celebration (she’s 28) in L.A. over the weekend — and that she’d have “10 birthday parties, if I could. So long as people are paying me, I could keep going.”

For God’s sake, someone cut the funding!

HERO pilot Capt. Chesley Sullenberger and his wife, Lori, were the surprise stars of Vanity Fair’s Oscar dinner and after-party that closed out a subdued Academy Awards weekend on a triumphantly glamorous note. The bash at the chic Sunset Tower Hotel was half the size of previous VF parties at the old Mortons, which only made it seem more special.

Graydon Carter’s bash was so exclusive that an unidentified couple paid $60,000 at the charity auction at Elton John’s party (see story below left) to attend the party with Elton. The soiree drew all the Oscar nominees and winners including the victorious “Slumdog Millionaire” posse. They were joined by Dennis Hopper, Sheryl Crow, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, Mick Jagger and L’Wren Scott, Sidney Poitier, Michael Douglas, Uma Thurman and fiancé Arki Busson. Larry David came with his date, Sherry Stringfield.

The celebratory mood was welcome after some decidely downbeat earlier weekend gatherings. On Saturday night, HBO, Focus Features, Miramax and Sony all held parties, but guests were “very quiet,” attendees said. “It was very low-key, no one was raising Cain, and it just seems like no one really wants to be celebrating.”

At the Weinstein Co. and Valentino Garavani event at the Andaz hotel, Victoria Beckham was caught “rolling her eyes at Kathy Hilton and walking away from her - the Hiltons are just considered so low-class,” one source said.

Even at the “Night Before Bash” thrown by Jeffrey Katzenberg at the Beverly Hills Hotel, some of the biggest names were not partying like they used to. Daniel Craig and Steven Spielberg spent a good part of the evening sitting on a couch in the corner talking. Most other guests kept to themselves despite the presence of Ben Stiller, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Shirley MacLaine, Cameron Crowe, Seth Rogen and Christopher Walken.

THE air-conditioning was so on the fritz at Elton John’s 17th annual AIDS Foundation party at the Pacific Design Center last night, one wag said, “I’m afraid Victoria Beckham’s face is going to melt off.” There were lots of laughs at the table where actor/model Tyrese sat in “Private Practice” star Taye Diggs’ seat. When Diggs walked over, he cracked, “Dude! They get us confused enough!” Also there were alice+olivia designer Stacey Bendet and husband Eric Eisner, Sharon Stone, Eva Longoria, Chace Crawford, Ricki Lake and Kate Beckinsale.

TALK about adding insult to injury: We hear Rihanna (above) was slated to be a surprise special performer at last night’s Academy Awards, but pulled out following her alleged brutal beating by boyfriend Chris Brown. The Barbados-born beauty had previously missed her performance at the Grammys because of the attack. The LAPD is investigating the source of leaked photos that showed the extent of her injuries. Academy reps did not return calls.

PIN-thin stylist Rachel Zoe was “flipping out over the phone and screaming at the top of her lungs” at the Weinstein Co./Valentino pre-Oscar party at the Andaz Hotel in LA, our spy reports. Maybe she was just stressed out. “Her television career is interfering with her styling work. Clients are getting very upset,” a Hollywood insider said over the weekend. Zoe, who styles Jennifer Garner, Joy Bryant and other celebs, traipsed through the H. Stern and Natura Bisse suite at the Beverly Hills Thompson Hotel, where a pal let slip that Debra Messing dropped her as her stylist. A different spy said Cameron Diaz was also irked that Zoe wants to be a star in her own right and is letting her attention slip.

Slumdog Millionaire was named best picture at the 81st annual Academy Awards on Sunday. The film’s director Danny Boyle was named best director.

In the best actress category, Kate Winslet won for her role as a concentration camp guard in The Reader.

While accepting her award, she joked that she wrote her first Oscar acceptance speech when she was 8, staring into a bathroom mirror. Holding her Oscar, she added, “This would have been the shampoo bottle. Well, it’s not a shampoo bottle now!”

Said Winslet (who made her father whistle from the audience so she knew where he was sitting), “I feel fortunate to have made it from there to here!”

Accepting the award for best actor for playing gay politician Harvey Milk, Milk’s Sean Penn joked that the Academy was a group of “homo loving sons of guns!”

“I did not expect this. I am touched by the appreciation,” said Penn, who previously won for Mystic River.

Before leaving the stage, he gave a shout out to fellow nominee Mickey Rourke (”he is my brother,” Penn said). Piggybacking off the themes of Milk, he also told the audience, “We’ve got to have equal rights for everyone.”

Emotions also ran high when the late Heath Ledger won best supporting actor for The Dark Knight. His mother and father and sister accepted the award on his behalf. For best supprting actress, the award went to Penelope Cruz for Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
