Naomi Watts’ newest film Funny Games is set for release today. This film is special to Naomi because while shooting, her son Alexander “Sasha” now 8-months old was conceived with boyfriend Liev Schreiber. Naomi, 39, reflects on the violence of the film, and being a new mom.

Now that you’re a mum, would you have second thoughts about doing a movie like this where, let’s face it, the family has little hope of survival?
My reason to do this movie was firstly the director, Michael Haneke. I was inspired by him and I understood what he was trying to do. I hope my son and any other children I may have will some day understand my reasoning behind my doing this film.
How has motherhood been so far?
It’s total euphoria. I love being a mum. I always knew I would. All the clichés are true. I spend my days making a number of bizarre noises and bizarre faces. And that gets my son off, which gets me off.
Has it affected your workload?
Yeah, absolutely. I’ve only done one thing since he was born. It was five weeks on a movie called The International [an espionage thriller directed by Tom Tykwer, co-starring Clive Owen].
