Spice Girl Melanie Brown will renew her wedding vows with husband Stephen Belafonte in Los Angeles next April, followed by a no-expenses-spared A-list party.

Mel, 32, shocked her close friends and family last June by sneaking off to Las Vegas to marry Belafonte. But Scary Spice says have no fear, she’ll do it right the second time around. Planning for the extravagant event has already begun.

A close friend of Mel’s said, “Mel is very excited at the thought and can’t wait to bring everyone together for this special event.”

The friend adds that the most important thing to Mel is having her mother and 8-year-old daughter Phoenix Chi by her side for the big day, and despite reports that she and Phoenix Chi’s father, dancer Jimmy Gulzar, are in a custody battle, she will get her wish.

Gulzar had refused to alter his visitation schedule with ex-wife Mel - the custodial parent - to allow Phoenix to go on the Spice Girls World Tour with her mom. A Los Angeles Superior Court Judge ruled in favor of Mel, though Gulzar will still have his regular scheduled visitation rights and see his daughter on her birthday.

Mel B’s friend tells us, “2007 has been an incredibly successful year for Mel on all fronts, life couldn’t be better, she is happier now than she’s ever been. Mel plans to work out her on-off troubles with Jimmy without a cliché public mudslinging match. She doesn’t want her daughter affected by the drama nor the negativity surrounding it to affect her current state of happiness either.”

Mel herself recently said, “I love Stephen. We’ve been sweethearts for years and he’s a good man.”
