Avril Lavigne’s The Best Damn thing has been atop at the Billboard 200 chart for two weeks in a row and she is more than elated about it.

She says,”All I knew in my head was, ‘OK, everything’s got to be really upbeat, really fun and catchy,”‘ Lavigne says. “Of course I wanted to make a pop record, because I want it to be catchy and everyone can sing along, but it’s definitely very rocking too, which is good.”

Avril said she wanted her songs to be fast and catchy so that she can play them at her concerts.

“At this point I’ve learned, after touring so much, what songs come alive on stage,” the singer/songwriter explains. “On my last tour I started realising, ‘OK, I don’t have enough fast songs,’ and my favourite moments were the songs like ‘Sk8ter Boi’ (2002), and I would throw in cover songs that were more upbeat. I just knew that I was on my third record and I knew exactly what I wanted to make, and it was a lot of inspiration from my tour.”

Lavigne insists, that her high level of achievement put no extra pressure of expectations on Best Damn Thing.

“That’s kind of the good thing about me,” she says. “I don’t really think about things like that. I just do them. I’m pretty chill.”
